KAPECOM sets up monitoring committee to checkmate politicians during campaign

The Kaduna State Peace Commission (KAPECOM), on Friday, said it has set up an election monitoring committee to provide an advisory platform, and to caution erring politicians or political parties that may engage in non-peaceful campaigns.

Sale B. Momale, KAPECOM Executive Vice Chairman, who disclosed this during a meeting between the KAPECOM, traditional rulers, religious leaders and chairmen of political parties in Kaduna, listed other members that would assist in monitoring the behaviour or utterances of individual politicians before, during, and after elections to include representatives of political parties, religious organizations, the media, civil society groups and security agencies.

According to him, arrangements are ongoing to convene a meeting of all candidates and political parties in the state to sign a commitment to peaceful conduct.

It assured of its commitment to continue engaging with the youths, women and political party candidates, support groups, media and people of Kaduna State for a peaceful campaign and elections.

The meeting was attended by Mr Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, representatives from UNOWAS and UN agencies, ECOWAS Commission, National Peace Commission, security agencies, and civil society organizations.
