The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations due to security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
The decision was made by Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a press briefing on Friday at the Bompai Police Headquarters.
CP Bakori emphasized the growing security risks, stating, “Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state.”
He further assured the public that the police were taking necessary precautions, saying, “Adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard the Eid prayers at designated grounds.”
He urged worshippers to comply with security guidelines, adding, “We encourage residents to avoid carrying unnecessary objects that could cause suspicion and strictly prohibit activities such as horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.”
CP Bakori also appealed to parents and guardians, cautioning, “I urge parents and guardians to warn their children against being used by subversive elements, and to ensure adherence to public order to prevent any breaches of peace.”
In his message to the citizens, CP Bakori stressed the importance of peace, saying, “As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation.”
This development follows an announcement from the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who had also halted plans for the Sallah Durbar to ensure peace.
The Emir had previously written to the police requesting protection for the Sallah activities. Ado Bayero said, “In the interest of peace, we have decided to suspend the Sallah Durbar this year.”
Concerns had been raised after the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, started preparing for his own Sallah events following a directive from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
