The Kano State Governor-elect, Abba Kabir, has promised to build on Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso laudable legacies.
Kabir who was elected in last Saturday’s governorship election under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party disclosed this while delivering his acceptance speech on Monday night in Kano.
The PUNCH reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission had announced Kabir as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
According to the results declared by the Returning Officer in the state, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, Kabir polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 890,705 votes
Kabir vowed that his administration will be an offshoot of Kwankwaso administration.
He also assured to uphold and continue with the philosophy of the Kwankwasiyya.
“We shall continue with its laudable people-oriented policies, focusing on qualitative education, empowerment programmes, policies, which promotes skills acquisition and entrepreneurship”.
“The completion of abandoned projects, free maternal healthcare programmes and provision of a conducive atmosphere for the development of businesses in and within the state,” he said.
Kabir affirmed to uphold the social-contract between his party, the NNPP and the good people of Kano state, adding that despite the fact that the party is relatively new, coupled with the fact that the logo of the party was poorly inscribed on the ballot paper, including widespread electoral violence, the people’s choice prevailed.
“You still gave us your mandate. We had no money and due to the inflicted poverty on the citizenry, the government took advantage to buy votes of the people, using both the new and old currencies, as well as distributed wrappers and other household items to voters.
“Against all these odds, you still came out en-mass to give us your mandate,” he added.
A party leader in the state, Abba Gida-Gida, thanked Kwankwaso for his relentless effort leading to the declaration of their mandate, as governor and deputy-elect.
Similarly, he thanked the people of the state, security agencies, electoral observers, INEC, the media, including all other stakeholders, who worked tirelessly towards ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
Abba called for support and cooperation of the good people of Kano towards the successful discharge of the mandate to govern Kano for the next four years.
