A statewide opinion poll commissioned by Anap Foundation ahead of the forthcoming 2023 governorship elections has indicated that Abba Kabir-Yusuf, the Kano New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, governorship candidate, is the most favoured to win the election.
The poll, which was conducted by NOI Polls Limited in October, showed that there is a close race between Kabir-Yusuf and Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, indicating an 18-point gap between the two and other candidates in the 2023 Kano gubernatorial election.
“The results showed a significant lead for Abba Kabir Yusuf with 29 per cent of voters proposing to vote for him if the governorship election were to be conducted today; and 21 per cent proposing to vote for Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the APC who fell in second place,” the foundation said.
Mohammed Sadiq Wali of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came a distant third according to the report, with only 3 per cent of the voters proposing to vote for him.
The report further noted that Abba Kabir Yusuf’s 9 percent-point lead at this stage is significant, but it is not sufficient enough to separate him completely from his main challenger as the top three candidates scored 29 percent, 21 percent and three percent.
However, the poll indicated that the number of undecided voters and those who prefer not to disclose their preferred candidate make up to a huge 30 percent and 11 percent respectively.
Also, the report revealed that the gender split of undecided voters shows that 35 percent of women are undecided, while 22 percent is for male voters.
