Juventus want Arsenal to include Thomas Partey as part of their deal to sign Arthur Melo, according to reports in Italy.

Mikel Arteta is desperate for Arsenal’s hierarchy to bolster his midfield options before the end of the January transfer window.

The Gunners are in advanced talks to sign Arthur and have already reached a personal agreement with the Brazilian midfielder, who has spoken to both Arteta and Edu.

Arthur is keen to leave Juventus in order to secure more playing time and boost his chances of making Brazil’s World Cup squad later this year.

But Juventus are reluctant to allow Arthur to leave until a replacement is found and had identified Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a potential option before Thomas Tuchel made it clear that he wants the 25-year-old to stay at Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports Italy, Juventus would be willing to let Arthur join Arsenal but only if Partey would be included in the move.

But the report claims that Arsenal would not entertain that proposal as they do not want to lose the Ghana international.

Speaking on Friday, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri suggested that Arthur would be remaining with them for the remainder of the season.

‘I have already said it, this is our team and we need to complete the season with the current squad in the best possible way,’ he said.

‘This means reaching the top four in the league and progressing in the Champions League, and on Tuesday there is the Coppa Italia. We are growing as a team, we just have to stay calm.’

Arsenal also have Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes on their shortlist but the French club are demanding a €45 million (£37.5m) fee for the Brazilian.
