Jamie Carragher has named two Manchester United stars Jurgen Klopp would love at Liverpool as the Premier League giants prepare to meet at Anfield.
Erik ten Hag takes his high-flying Red Devils team to Merseyside on Sunday to take on a Liverpool side struggling for consistency under Jurgen Klopp.
Manchester United have enjoyed a sensational transformation since Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford last summer, climbing to third in the Premier League, progressing in the Europa League and lifting the EFL Cup trophy.
United only finished sixth last season but look a different proposition under ex-Ajax boss Ten Hag and beat Liverpool 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have taken 10 points from their last four league games but remain just sixth in the table, six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham and 21 points adrift of surprise leaders Arsenal.
Anfield legend Carragher has been impressed by Manchester United’s surge under Ten Hag and says Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have been ‘transformational’ at Old Trafford.
Carragher even believes Liverpool boss Klopp will be ‘be looking for his own’ Casemiro and Martinez at the end of the season, with the Reds expected to back the German manager in the transfer market.
‘After Liverpool’s comprehensive 4-0 win last season, the suggestion Manchester United were “years behind” their rivals took hold,’ Carragher told the Daily Telegraph.
‘I said it was nonsense then, and as an ex-Liverpool player took no pleasure in being right after United’s Carabao Cup underlined their massive progress this season.
‘The combination of Ten Hag’s astute management and coaching and the introduction of proven competitors with the right mentality such as Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez is proof that big clubs only need two or three top class players to be transformed.
‘Klopp will be looking for his own Casemiro and Martínez this summer, a dominant central midfielder and quality centre-back to partner Virgil van Dijk.
‘Then we might finally see what the Premier League has generally lacked – a strong Manchester United and Liverpool facing each other as a genuine threat to title ambitions rather than a distraction to deal with twice a season.’
Casemiro won five Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles during his impressive spell at Real Madrid, while Martinez enjoyed a stint under Ten Hag at Ajax before also joining Manchester United last summer.
