Jurgen Klopp has revealed why Alexis Mac Allister missed Liverpool’s FA Cup win, and that he should be back in time to play Chelsea and Arsenal.

On Sunday, Liverpool beat Norwich 5-2 and now advance to the fifth-round where they will host either Watford or Southampton.

It was an emotional match for Klopp – his first since announcing he would be leaving the club at the end of the season after nearly nine years in the dugout.

He knows there is little time to reflect though, with two huge Premier League games on the horizon for Liverpool, namely a home clash against Chelsea on Wednesday followed by a trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

As it stands, the Reds are top of the table, five points clear of Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

It is a very timely then, that three key players have returned to action following injury, namely Trent Alezander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai who all came off the bench against Norwich.

‘It’s good to have players back, Trent, Robbo, Dom,’ Klopp told ITV after the win over the Canaries.

‘Robbo was out for a long time, the other two boys not that long so it was important for all of them to have minutes. That they are back is super important.’

One player who was surprisingly not in the Liverpool matchday squad was Mac Allister, and Klopp has now revealed that the midfielder had suffered a knock in training and was not risked for this game – but he could be back to play the Blues.

‘Alexis, he only rested today. He felt a little bit, so he is probably ready for Wednesday as well,’ the manager added.

‘The next game is around the corner, only three times sleeping and then you play Chelsea here, which is obviously a different game, and then Arsenal away.

‘So we need them all and we need them in the best possible shape. Hopefully we are in good shape as a team and we can be an uncomfortable opponent. Let’s see.’
