Jurgen Klopp hopes Darwin Nunez will be available for selection when Liverpool host Chelsea on Saturday afternoon after sitting out the last two matches with a thigh problem.

The Uruguayan was last in action when the Reds drew 2-2 with Wolves at Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup 10 days ago, missing the Premier League loss to Brighton and the 1-0 win over Wolves in the replay at Molineux on Tuesday night.

Klopp was delighted with how his side performed in the replay victory, but was not going to commit to keeping that team in games to come, for one because Nunez is pushing for a return ahead of the visit of the Blues.

‘I don’t think it would be right after one game to say that’s the team for the next eight weeks or whatever. Let’s have a look,’ said Klopp after the Reds beat Wolves.

‘I hope that Darwin is coming back and training tomorrow or Thursday. He might then be in contention.

‘Kostas (Tsimikas) got a knock in the back, so let’s see how they recover. We have now this game and four days to train (for the Chelsea game) and after that five or six days of training until the next game. It’s always like this, it’s always about who shows up in training.

‘The door is open for everybody. We have to fight and whoever is ready to fight has a good chance to play.’

The game at 12.30pm on Saturday will be huge for both teams as Liverpool sit ninth and Chelsea 10th in the Premier League table, a long way from where they want to be.

Defeat for either side would pile huge pressure on either Klopp or Graham Potter as they look to turn things round.

Klopp may have Nunez available, but he will still be without Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Arthur Melo.
