We support governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short-term and accelerating progress towards elimination of malaria and NTDs in the long term.Overview of Role:CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to help countries across Africa rapidly reduce and eliminate malaria and NTDs. The Regional Manager will play a critical role in shaping government malaria and NTD strategy at regional and national levels in some of the most endemic countries in the world, including Nigeria.To achieve this, the Regional Manager will coordinate and help conduct work across CHAI’s country and regional technical teams to support countries with: building evidence-driven national strategic plans to guide strategic decision making, developing costing models to assess financial resources needed, and assist with data-driven cost optimization analysis for health strategies to maximize limited resources. The role will also help manage communications across countries, regions, and teams, organize CHAI’s work, and provide effective leadership to execute high-impact programs.The Regional Manager will bring outstanding analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills and must be able to work independently and have a deep personal commitment to producing results. The successful candidate does not need to have prior expertise in malaria or NTDs, but they must have the capacity to rapidly absorb new concepts and be comfortable communicating these to a technical audience. Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships in a challenging multicultural environment will be critical. They will have strong team management and leadership skills and the capacity to facilitate high-level strategic discussions with a multi-cultural, multidisciplinary set of actors.CHAI places great value on the following qualities in its staff: resourcefulness, responsibility, patience, tenacity, humility, independence, energy, and work ethic.Responsibilities

  • Work with government malaria and NTD staff and CHAI country teams to conduct malaria program reviews; update or write national strategic plans; and optimize and cost national malaria programs by building Excel-based costing and budget models.
  • Serve as a thought partner and contribute to a technically sound strategic vision for reducing the burden of malaria and NTDs across the region.
  • Promote the routine use of data and analysis to evaluate effectiveness of current interventions and inform government strategic planning.
  • Conduct costing and financial analyses and support the development of funding proposals and operational plans.
  • Support governments to meet Global Fund requests and satisfy grant application requirements, including budget development.
  • Communicate effectively across a matrixed organization, and coordinate CHAI teams and resources to ensure specific project goals are met.
  • Foster a strong team culture based on CHAI’s values, resulting in a cohesive and productive team.
  • Work with CHAI Program Managers to ensure that achievable project plans are in place and integrated with team and government priorities.
  • Support capacity building and knowledge transfer for the country and state teams
  • Organize and monitor program activities against project goals and donor commitments.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and work collaboratively with CHAI teams to achieve exceptional results on aggressive timelines.
  • Provide inputs to technical deliverables (e.g. strategic plans, guidelines) and organize development of donor reports, concept notes or other products for external communication.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key regional stakeholders, including government officials, donors, and academic organizations to foster collaboration and coordination.
  • Identify new opportunities within and outside the initial project scope, anticipate risks and be proactive in responding to them.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, business administration, policy, international development or relevant field
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to develop and deliver persuasive and visually compelling presentations
  • Exceptional problem-solving solving skills
  • Experience in strategy development, planning, and project implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, connect the dots, and think ‘outside the box’
  • Experience in capacity building, mentorship and management of remote or decentralized teams
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in unstructured settings and to adapt to new environments and challenge
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, credibility, and dedication to CHAI’s mission
  • High levels of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel 25-30%
