Job description: Financial Controller / Finance ManagerAs the Financial Controller / Finance Manager, you will be pivotal in running a busy shipping line in Nigeria.You will be responsible for providing management and leadership for the finance department, developing a strong finance organisation capable of supporting business growth, and being accountable for the quality of all finance information.In addition, you will be a strong business partner to the Managing Director, support the group finance teams in their global transformation initiatives and lead local strategy development.
- Overall management of the Finance Team
- Develop the Finance Team’s technical skills, such as accounting and financial reporting, internal control, tax and regulatory compliance, proper documentation and filing, etc.
- Ensure that the organisation complies with local rules and regulations, including but not limited to filing financial statements and tax submissions.
- Drive forecasting and budgeting processes to drive the various departments towards achieving corporate objectives.
- Proactively manage the business’s cash flow needs and liaise with banks for guarantees and other facilities.
- Support management as a business partner by providing financial information and analysis to support decision-making.
- Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions.
- Responsible for all government, statutory, and financial reporting, including audit reports and tax submissions for agency and principal.
- Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the company, establish SOPs covering key areas (such as credit control, cash forecasting, fund management, etc) and ensure their rigorous enforcement.
- Present financial reports to board members, executives, and stakeholders.
Personal requirements:
- At least 10-15 years of relevant Finance experience
- Previous experience working within a shipping line is highly advantageous.
- Professional finance or accounting qualification
- Strong in accounting standards, internal controls and procedures
- Ability to set up new business processes and drive process improvements
- Senior stakeholder management – You must demonstrate experience influencing and working cross-functionally in a matrix group with an overseas HQ.
- Previous experience of working in Africa (ideally Nigeria)
