Job description: The National Institute for Nigerian Language (NINLAN), Aba is a federal Government owned tertiary institution under the regulation of the National Universities Commission (NUC). It is located in Aba, Abia State Nigeria. NINLAN is an Inter-University Centre (IUC) established by Decree 117 of 1993 now Act CAP No.50, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN), 2004. The Act mandates NINLAN to award degrees, certificates, and Diplomas in Nigerian Languages; and to be a visible advocacy organ for the development and sustenance of Nigerian languages through teaching, learning, and research in Nigerian Languages with the objective of producing teachers and other experts for all Nigerian Languages, as well as fostering national unity, industrialization and socio-economic growth. The Institute is under the direct supervision of the National Universities Commission (NUC).We are recruiting to fill the position below:Job Position: Executive DirectorJob Location: Aba, AbiaBackground

  • The position of the Executive Director of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN), Aba will be vacant by July 31st 2024. The National Institute for Nigerian Languages, Aba wishes to commence the process for the selection of the appointment of a new Executive Director of the Institute and hereby invites applications from interested, qualified and distinguished Academics who are required to note the following information for guidance.

Responsibilities

  • The Executive Director is the Chief Executive and academic head of the Institute. He/she shall be the chief exponent of the educational research and cultural missions of the Institute and his/her office shall serve as the hub of activities in areas of protocol, external relations, and coordination of various internal organs.
  • The Executive Director sees to the day-to-day administration of the Institute and shall see that the mandate and goals of the Institute are met.
  • The Executive Director is directly responsible to the Governing Council for the Management of human, financial and material resources of the Institute.
  • He shall ensure that the provisions of the Act setting up the Institute are adhered to; and by virtue of his/her office, he or she is a member of the Institute’s Governing Council, Chairman of Academic Board, Chairman of Congregation, and so on.

Requirements
The candidate for the post of Executive Director of the Institute shall be a distinguished scholar with outstanding academic and administrative records. Specifically, the candidate:

  • Must possess a Doctorate Degree in Nigerian Language Studies, Linguistics, Education, Language Arts or any other related discipline;
  • Shall be a full Professor of not less than eight (8) years standing, with ability to provide academic and administrative leadership.
  • Shall exhibit entrepreneurial drive and ability to attract extra-statutory funds and mobilize other resources for the development of the Institute;
  • Shall possess personal integrity in the management of funds and be able to deploy financial resources appropriately for the benefit of the Institute;
  • Shall demonstrate respectable level of literacy in Information Communication Technology (ICT).
  • The candidate should have substantial experience at professorial level, and must have held senior academic and administrative positions, sufficient to equip him/her for the duties of the Executive Director.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a clear vision for the actualization of the Institute’s mandate, vision and goals;
  • Shall enjoy excellent physical and mental health.
