Job Vacancy: Job title: CCCM Officer

Job description: JOB PURPOSE

Support project implementation, supervision, and team management. Participate in general technical coordination (TWG) with government and relevant partners on CCCM and protection issues at field and Yola base level. Support CCCM Manager with representation in the CCCM/Shelter/NFI sub-sector in the coordination forum. Keeps direct contact with the CCCM Programme Manager in Maiduguri and Protection Coordinator for technical support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct regular border monitoring to assess the movements by asylum seekers and returnees to prevent refoulement (forced return of asylum seekers) and facilitate timely registration.
  • Liaise with border official (Immigration, Customs) to build and maintain cordial relationships and remain abreast about the asylum situation in the border areas and report to supervisor.
  • Monitor and report on refugees/asylum seekers and all other people forced to flee who are in conflict with the laws including updates on those in prisons to UNHCR protection focal point.
  • Contribute to enhancing refugee protective environment through capacity building and awareness raising/sensitization on refugee protection as well as monitoring accountability to people forced to flee
  • Promote peaceful co-existence between refugees/asylum seekers and their host communities in collaboration with the local authorities including SEMA, Bulamas, Lawans, Ajias.
  • Organize regular meetings with partners to discuss needs/gaps among the asylum seekers/refugee and coordinate response to ensure timely provision of lifesaving assistance.
  • Compile and maintain an updated statistics of asylum seekers/refugees in the Area of Responsibility (including all LGAs hosting asylum seekers/refugees in Adamawa state).
  • Monitor service delivery to asylum seekers/refugees, document, and report gaps to supervisor, UNHCR and relevant sectors through bilateral and/or sector forum for appropriate response.
  • Liaise with varying service providers (including Health, Food, Shelter/NFIs, WASH, Education) and advocate for timely provision of lifesaving assistance to asylum seekers/refugees.
  • Receive lists of refugees wishing to repatriate from various communities, conduct intension survey, prepare report, and share recommendations with the supervisor.
  • In consultation with supervisor, maintain close collaboration with UNHCR CCCM team as well as other UNHCR departments visiting project sites, and provide them with updates on asylum seekers/refugees.
  • Provides inputs to the development of concept notes, proposals, intervention strategies and budgets taking in consideration community needs, cultural and environmental appropriateness.
  • Provide regular reports (including flash updates, weekly, monthly, midterm and end of project reports).
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology.
  • Degree in Laws is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in humanitarian service (especially CCCM) provision required.
  • Experience in refugee programme is an asset.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English (Mandatory), local dialect necessary.
  • Skills needs and gaps assessment and Accountability to the Affected Population (AAP).
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Emails – outlook).
  • Communication, analytical, facilitation, coordination and reporting skills required.
  • Respect and adherence to protection principles.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, flexibility.
  • Work within the framework of IINTERSOS Nigeria’s core values.
  • Act as an ambassador for INTERSOS Nigeria, through professionalism and conduct.
