Former Tottenham star Jamie O’Hara believes it is time for Antonio Conte to leave the club, describing his football as ‘diabolical’ and ‘awful to watch’.
Spurs crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night in tame fashion, drawing 0-0 at home against AC Milan after a 1-0 loss in Italy in the first leg of the last 16 tie.
Despite needing a victory on home soil Tottenham produced little going forward and were booed off at the final whistle by their own fans.
O’Hara, a former player but still a fan of the club, feels Conte’s turgid football coupled with unimpressive results means it is time to go and for Mauricio Pochettino to return for a second stint in charge.
‘I feel for the Spurs fans there tonight because it was embarrassing, it was a pathetic performance all over the park,’ O’Hara said on talkSPORT.
‘I think the time has come for Conte to go, he doesn’t look like he wants to be there and the players are not getting what he wants to do.
‘Put him out of his misery, put everyone out of their misery, get Poch in and move on, let him have three months till the end of the season to see what he’s got. Then he has pre-season and next season we might get top four.
‘There’s no way I can keep watching, I’m actually tired of watching Tottenham, I just want to enjoy watching my team.
‘The time has come for Pochettino to return. The club needs a lift, the fans need a lift.
‘The fans got behind it, they tried and tried, it hasn’t worked. You have to hold your hands up sometimes and go, Conte is a great manager, it hasn’t worked for Tottenham
‘The football is diabolical, it is awful to watch. I’d rather watch paint dry.’
Cristian Romero was shown a red card with around 15 minutes to play in north London, and the subsequent decision from Conte really frustrated O’Hara.
Spurs were down to 10 but still needed to score and the Italian replaced forward Dejan Kulusevski with centre-back Davinson Sanchez, which O’Hara could not get his head round.
‘I don’t understand what he’s thinking there. Why are you taking off Kulusevki and bringing on a centre-half when you’re losing the game?’ O’Hara raged.
‘I don’t understand his thinking. It’s so negative, it’s so boring. Honestly, I’m sick to death of watching Spurs
‘They rip your heart out every season. I’ve had enough of it. I don’t want to watch them anymore, I’m a Spurs fan and I don’t want to watch it!’
