Jamie Carragher reckons five players have stood out in the Premier League so far this season, but Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has shone more brightly than anyone.

The Reds talisman is level with Jamie Vardy at the top of the goalscoring charts with six goals in just seven games so far this campaign, and with three assists to his name as well, he has been a creative force.

It is little surprise that Carragher has picked out the Egyptian hero as his top performer so far, but there are some more surprising names completing his top five.

The former England defender has turned to the two biggest signings of the season so far and a couple of underrated Everton stars to complete his top five of the campaign to date.

‘I think there’s probably been four or five who’ve really stood out,’ Carragher told Sky Bet’s The Overlap.

‘I saw [Cristiano] Ronaldo got player of the month and he has had a huge impact, there’s no doubt. I think of [Romelu] Lukaku, certainly the start of the season.

‘A couple of Everton players as well, Andros Townsend has been amazing, [Abdoulaye] Doucoure as well.

‘But probably off the back of the goal he scored against Man City, I’d probably say Mo Salah.

‘I think he’s top scorer in the league and I think he probably just edges it at the moment. I’d go for Mo Salah.’

The goal Carragher refers to was the memorable solo effort in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City, which left the Liverpool legend claiming the current Reds icon is the best player on the planet right now.

‘I don’t think there’s anyone better in the world at this moment or in European football, I really don’t,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.

‘I’ve seen the Champions League, his record over the last few weeks has been outstanding.

‘You can never question him too much for what he’s done at Liverpool. But right now is about as sharp as I’ve ever seen him.’
