Jamie Carragher simply cannot picture Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez lifting the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.
Liverpool legend Carragher, who now works as a football pundit, has continually played down the Blues’ chances of glory this term.
Chelsea, currently second in the Premier League table, are only two points behind Liverpool, although the Reds do have a game in hand over them.
Speaking ahead of the next round of fixtures, Carragher told Sky Bet’s The Overlap: ‘When I think of teams who win the title, the goalkeeper is such a big thing.
‘At Liverpool, the teams I played in, we never had a ‘keeper who was on the level of Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar or Petr Cech.
‘Liverpool got Alisson [after I retired] and they won the league. That’s my thing.
‘Chelsea have been so impressive this season. I just can’t imagine the goalkeeper (Robert Sanchez) lifting [the Premier League trophy].’
Speaking on Sky Sports earlier this week, Carragher added: ‘I think next weekend’s game (away at Everton) is really important.
‘You might say that Chelsea are at the top of the league and Everton are near the bottom.
‘When I look at the things that worry me about Chelsea in terms of winning the league – a goalkeeper and maybe two centre-backs – Goodison Park is the type of place where something like that could show up.
‘If they can go to Goodison and keep a clean sheet and win, you think, oh, OK.
‘That’s one of those results where it’s a team near the bottom but you know it’s a tough place to go.
‘If your goalkeeper is not at it, your two centre-backs are not at it, set-pieces at Everton. You can come a cropper there.’
