Jamie Carragher expects Chelsea to be the ‘busiest team’ during the January transfer window and says it feels like Todd Boehly is trying to sign ‘every player in the world’.

New Chelsea owner Boehly spent more than £250m last summer, bringing the likes of Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Stamford Bridge.

But Blues manager Graham Potter could be set to welcome a few more new faces to Chelsea this month, with the club linked with moves for Benoit Badiashile, Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix.

Chelsea have agreed a £35m deal to sign Monaco defender Badiashile but Carragher reckons that could be just the first of several January signings heading to west London this month.

The former Liverpool and England defender told Sky Sports: ‘Chelsea may be the busiest team in this January transfer window – because every time I pick up a paper I see they’re signing someone! It feels like they’re going for every player in the world!’

‘It seems to take me back to when Roman Abramovich first came in and I thought with him leaving the club, it might be the end of that. But it doesn’t seem to be the case, certainly with the new regime at Chelsea.

‘It looks like they’re trying to throw their money around to try and get in the best players to the club, which is what Chelsea are used to in the last 10 to 15 years.

‘I thought it may stop a little, it looks like Todd Boehly are scouting the air for players and I expect them to be busy.’

Chelsea made an encouraging start under former Brighton boss Potter but results fell away before the World Cup as the Blues slipped to eighth.

Potter’s side beat struggling Bournemouth in their first game since Qatar but dropped two points at newly-promoted Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Following the 1-1 draw at the City Ground, Potter said: ‘A hard-earned point, against a team that are set up well. They put us under pressure second half.

‘Our performance level wasn’t good enough to take the three points. We didn’t move the ball fast enough, not enough movement.

‘When the game became a bit more out of control we suffered with the duels and struggled to deal with that aspect.

‘It’s a tough game, Forest played a good game, but we’re disappointed with our performance over the 90 minutes and concerned we didn’t deserve the win.’

Asked about Chelsea’s transfer plans for January, Potter added: ‘Until someone has told me they have been signed it would be unfair of me to comment. I’ve been focused on the team today.’

Chelsea, currently seven points outside the top-four, now face two matches against defending champions Manchester City, first in the Premier League and then in the third round of the FA Cup.
