The Abia State Coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr Johnson Adebiyi, has called on the members of staff of the board to ensure strict maintanance of the institution’s infrastructural facilities.
Mr Adebiyi, who made this charge during an interactive workshop he organised for the staff members, titled “Imbibing a Maintenance Culture”, admonished them on the importance of guiding jealously the facilities, which were provided in their respective departments by the Management for their comfort and that of visitors.
Speaking during the event, the Abia State Office Coordinator, said the workshop was put in place to inculcate in staff, the habit of consistently, maintaining, for optimal use, all fixed and movable items meant to make life more meaningful for them to help them in discharging their duties effectively.
He added that putting the facilities in proper use, would apart from reducing the cost of maintenance, taking into cognisance, the current economic realities in the country, but would also inculcate in the staff a sound management culture.
While charging them to form the habit of regularly and consistently keeping the Board’s buildings, items of equipment, electrical appliances, machines, motors vehicles, infrastructures among others in prime condition, Mr Adebiyi decried a situation whereby many of these items of comfort are being misused on daily basis.
He attributed many of the incidence of fire outbreak recorded in government offices are as a result of the nonchalant attitude of some staff who would for instance, not care to switch off electrical appliances at the close of work, reiterating the need for all staff to develop a positive attitude towards handling all Board’s facilities by seeing them as their own.
At the end of the training, many of the participants expressed their gratitude to the Coordinator for his efforts for a more robust and efficient service delivery.
