JAMB IS ONE OF THE FEW ORGANISATIONS THAT ARE MAKING NIGERIA PROUD – RT. HON. SADA
The Chairman, Ad-hoc Committee of the National Assembly on the alleged result manipulation case involving Ms. Ejikeme Mmesoma, Hon. Soli Sada, has eulogized the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) for its faultless processes and state-of-the-art technology. Hon. Sada gave this commendation when his committee visited the National Headquarters of the Board, Bwari, Abuja, on Tuesday, 25th July, 2023, in furtherance of the mandate of the committee to probe the Board’s processes. The committee, which arrived at the Board’s Headquarters late in the afternoon of that fateful day, disclosed their mission is to thoroughly interrogate the Board’s processes as part of its fact-finding mission. It would be recalled that the Mmesoma case had garnered significant national attention, sparking concerns about the integrity of the examination process, hence the interest of the lawmakers in the UTME process.During their visit, the committee members also engaged in closed-door meetings with key functionaries of the Board led by the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, and Departmental Heads. These discussions were aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Board ‘s examination processes, security measures, and data management systems, in order to identify potential vulnerabilities that could call for concern. As part of their investigation, the committee had access to Ms. Mmesoma’s entire conversation/interaction with JAMB (examination records, application details, and result) after proper permission of the Chairman of the committee.Earlier, the Registrar had craved the indulgence of the Chairman of the committee to open the “confidential file” which he said, should not have been opened without the permission of the candidate herself in a normal situation. Having thoroughly examined these records, questioned relevant staff, make necessary enquiries from the Registrar, the members sought to identify any discrepancies or irregularities that may have occurred during the examination process but found none. During the task, the issue of Merit List and its agreed percentage of 45% came up and it recommendations were made by members of the committee while the member from Delta appealed for a higher percentage so as to strengthen quality education in Nigeria. In addition to scrutinizing records, the Registrar took the committee on a tour of the facility beginning from the examination server to the data storage processes, power supply, and security surveillance systems. The committee also visited and interviewed staff from the examination centre close by to apprise them of the entire UTME processes in order to provide members insights into the examination environment and adherence to protocols, for them to make informed decision as to whether there were any lapses. To further strengthen their understanding, the committee collaborated with JAMB’s technical team to conduct a forensic analysis of the examination data. This analysis aimed to uncover any unusual patterns or suspicious activities that could indicate result manipulation. At the end of the exercise, the lawmakers threw their weight behind the Board and praise its outstanding processes and state-of-the-art technology. The Committee’s visit to the JAMB Headquarters afforded members valuable insights into the operational processes of the Board. The Ad-hoc Committee had since concluded its fact-finding visit and presented its report to the National Assembly.
