Manchester United target Jadon Sancho has talked up his ‘special’ Dortmund team-mates after the Bundesliga club blocked the winger’s move to Old Trafford.

The Germans were willing to sell the 20-year-old this summer but they set United a deadline of August 10th to complete the deal and, given United didn’t meet their £108million asking price, they now insist Sancho will stay at the club.

Sancho was keen on a move to Old Trafford but he’s unlikely to hand in a transfer request to force through a transfer, particularly as Dortmund confirmed they had given him a pay rise last summer to tie him to the club until 2023.

The former Manchester City star joined up with his team-mates for pre-season on Monday and he played 45 minutes in the club’s friendly against Altach today.

Sancho had a goal chalked off for offside but he looked lively as he played alongside former Manchester United target Jude Bellingham for the first time.

The winger has remained silent on the rumours of a move to United but he spoke about his joy of playing for Dortmund after the 6-0 victory, insisting the club have some ‘special players’ coming through.

‘I love playing with this lot,’ said Sancho.

‘It is a special bunch. We’ve got some special young players coming up.

‘I am really happy to share the pitch with them and guide them. I was once in their shoes, playing with the seniors. I am happy for them’.

United remain convinced that they can sign Sancho and believe that Dortmund are simply trying to extract a larger fee for the winger.

The main sticking point is the gap in valuation between the two teams, with United only prepared to pay between £80m-£90m for the winger.

Dortmund feel under little pressure to sell and the news that Sancho’s contract runs until 2023 – which is 12 months longer than previously thought – was a blow to United’s chances.

United have drawn up a list of alternative targets should a deal not go through. Former Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele is one, while Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman is another.
