Jack Grealish’s agent has dismissed rumours that Jack Grealish has reached an agreement with Manchester United but admits it would be ‘great’ for the midfielder to playing Champions League football next season.

The 24-year-old has had an outstanding individual campaign as captain of struggling Aston Villa and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified him as one of United’s top targets this summer.

Villa have reportedly responded by slapping an £80million price tag on Grealish as they prepare to cash in on their prized possession, whether or not they are relegated from the Premier League into the Championship.

It’s understood the Red Devils will press ahead with their bid to sign the Englishman despite executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward warning fans that it may not be ‘business as usual’ for the club in the summer transfer market due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis.

Tim Sherwood, who was Grealish’s manager at Villa five years ago, suggested last week that United had already agreed a deal for the talented playmaker but the player’s representative has rubbished these claims in an interview with Stretty News.

‘Absolutely no deal has been done with anybody,’ Jonathan Barnett said.

Asked whether Villa’s reported £80m asking price for Grealish is ambitious considering the club could be relegated, Barnett responded: ‘I don’t think they are looking at the Championship themselves.

‘They believe that hopefully they’ll get out of the trouble they’re in.

‘Jack believes it, he’s fighting hard, as hard as he can to stop that. That’s all that is on his mind at the moment.

‘He’s not interested in anything else other than fighting to get Aston Villa out of any trouble.’

Though Barnett is keen to stress that Grealish remains fully focussed on Villa’s survival, he’s given United hope of a deal by admitting that it would be beneficial for the midfielder’s development if he was playing at the highest level next season.

‘On the other hand, I think as far as his career is concerned, it would be great for him to play in the Champions League and develop his great skills and I’m not sure in which country or where that will be.

‘But that conversation won’t happen now because all he wants to do is fight and help Aston Villa.’

United travel to Villa Park on Thursday night for a match which many are viewing as an audition for Grealish in front of his potential suitors.

Grealish scored a stunning opening goal in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in December and Solskjaer knows his players will have to be ‘aware’ of the Villa skipper.

‘I think the last game obviously they caused us some problems, both Grealish off the left and [Anwar] El Ghazi off the right,’ the United head coach said at his press conference on Wednesday.

‘He scored a fantastic goal. There’s been lots said and talked about him and we need to be aware of him.

‘Whoever is close to him, if he’s off the left, in the middle or on the right. What he does is attract players to him and creates space for others.

‘It’s not just one player in that Villa team, there’s many of them.’
