Internal crisis: Assembly directs NULGE to reopen Aba North council headquarters

The Abia State House of Assembly has mandated the leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to reopen the gate of Aba North Local Government Council headquarters to ensure normal businesses resume at the council.

The state assembly gave the directive at its executive session when the Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Prince David Ikonne, Head of Works of the council, other principal officers, Chairman of Abia State Chapter of NULGE, and its Aba North Council branch met with the leadership of the house, on Thursday.

The delegation visited to honor the summon of the lawmakers following internal wranglings rocking Aba North.

However, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, at the resumption of plenary sitting of the house, disclosed that the house has constituted an ad-hoc committee to resolve the subsisting issues impeding governance at the Abia North local area.

He further stated that the committee was given one week to submit their report back to the house.

The Adhoc committee is chaired by the member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, and a former Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chikwendu Kalu

Members are, Hon Chukwudi Apugo, Hon Ginger Onwusibe and Hon Okey Igwe.

Ikonne had frowned at rumors making the rounds on social media that he had a confrontation with the council’s Head of Department on Works, Mrs Anosike Chidinma, that resulted in hitting her with wood.
