Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the November 11, 2023 election in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has urged the people of the state to remain calm as the electoral tribunal delivers judgement.
In a statement forwarded to Newspot on Thursday, Anyanwu said the unity of the state will not be threatened in any guise if the court sacks All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Governor Hope Uzodinma, and declares him winner.
He claimed he “genuinely secured the highest votes in the election”, adding that what he is only seeking for is for the tribunal to declare him winner of the election, which he clearly won.
“It is obvious that Imo people genuinely cast their votes for the PDP in the November 11 election. What we are praying the court is to validate our mandate that was stolen by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress.
“In the past, court had sacked sitting governors whose mandates were fraudulently obtained. We believe that this one will not be different. The present occupier of the governorship seat came through the court, so there is no problem if the same court discovers that his re-election was marred with discrepancies,” Anyanwu said.
Anyanwu, who doubles as the National Secretary of the PDP, further enjoined Imolites to be prayerful in view of the coming judgement, assuring that his party is prepared to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state should the court restore its ‘stolen mandate’.
He appealed to party members and Imo people in general to be law abiding by shunning acts of violence.
