The leadership of All Progressives Congress ( APC) Imo state chapter has denied allegation of financial starvation by the state Governor Hope Uzodinma for a period of time as it was alleged.
The allegation according to the party’s leadership, was coming from some quarters and individuals claiming that they have it on good authority that the party is facing internal rancour as it was also alleged that the state leadership of the party is not in good terms with the governor following his alleged abandonment of the party after the Local Council elections.
Reacting to the information, the State leadership of the party, through the office of its Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke dismissed the information in a press statement as a mere rumour being fabricated by the enemies of the party who are envious of the huge success recorded by the party in the just concluded Local Council Polls.
He stated: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Imo State chapter has been drawn to an article making rounds the social media platforms with the title “Imo APC is in Distress; State Exco Members Cry out for help, Accused Governor of Total Neglect”
The party spokesperson informed that contrary to what he described as an unfounded and mischievous claims of a writer in desperation to disparage the integrity and undermine the credibility of the government, that the All Progressives Congress, APC, Imo State is in a very boisterous state of health and proactively functional in the discharge of its responsibilities.
He remarked that the party has kept it’s financial records clean and updated, further informing that the just concluded Local Government elections is a clear pointer to what he termed as an incontrovertible truth that Imo APC is functional and healthy.
“We completely align ourselves with the position of the writer on non-financial commitments or involvement of the Governor to the party day-to-day activities. We have continued to pride ourselves that our Governor has remained faithful and committed to his oath of office not to allow his personal interest to override his constitutional mandate to do the right thing.
It is also important to state to the benefit of uninformed writers that the Governor or state Government is not one of the sources of funding for our party.” he further stated.
Duke pointed out that the 2022 Constitution of the party as amended in article 22 A provides inter alia:
“The party shall derive funds from: membership dues, subscription fees , levies on members, poceeds from investment, donations and fund raising, gifts and grants, borrowing as approved by the National Executive Committee and any other lawful means.”
The party’s publicity secretary, used the medium to appeal to party members and its supporters to disregard the said article and its contents, as it is a product of mischief and wickedness.
