Ikpeazu assures he will work with relevant agencies to deliver projects to Abia citizens

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured a delegation of the House of Representatives Committee on Power, that his administration will continue to work closely with all agencies of the Federal Government who are in the state to deliver projects for the people.

He gave the assurance when he received the delegation of the hallowed chamber of the National Assembly who was in Aba to inspect the Ariaria Independent Power Plant as part of their oversight functions.

This was disclosed in a release by Onyebuchi Ememanka, the Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State Governor and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, on Friday.

Governor Ikpeazu informed the delegation of the efforts of his government during the period of the feasibility studies and eventual construction of the power plant and applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the siting of the project at Ariaria.

He further told the delegation that the current remodeling of the market was designed to tackle head on, the issue of flooding in the market which even affects the power plant, noting that the area is the lowest point in Aba making it prone to flooding. He also recalled the efforts of his administration in tackling the challenge of Faulks Road.

He assured that work will soon resume at the site after his meeting with the contractors.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Power, Hon. Makwe Livinus Makwe, informed Governor Ikpeazu that their visit was part of the oversight functions of the lower chamber.

The committee chairman thanked the number one citizen of Abia for his strong collaboration with the Federal Government which led to the successful and speedy completion of the project, which is designed to provide steady power to the traders at Ariaria International Market.

The Chairman further applauded the Governor for the ongoing remodeling of the market with a view to battle the issue of flooding which was one of the major challenges facing the power plant.

He expressed satisfaction that with what they saw on ground, a new Ariaria Market will evolve to the pride of the South East.

The federal lawmaker also told the Governor that one key challenge facing the plant was the issue of supply of gas to fire the plant and keep it running.

The Rep member said that the Federal Ministry of Power must rise to the challenge of ensuring steady provision of gas for the plant, as well as the expansion of the capacity of the plant to increase their coverage of the current 4000 shops in the market.

According to the release, Also present at the event which was held at the Governor’s Lodge Aba were Hon. Simon Atigwe and Hon. Shehu Saleh Rijan, as well as the Committee Clerk, Abba Garba and a legislative aide to the Committee Chairman, Mrs. Ugonwa.
