Prominent Obas from Ogun East Senatorial district led by the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona and the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland Oba .Babatunde Adewale Ajayi held a joint meeting at the palace of the Awujale in Ijebu Ode recently.
With almost 100 Obas present, the meeting delibrated on the need for the emergence and creation of a state from the old Ijebu Province after previous attempts were aborted .
The significance of the meeting was the resolve by the Ijebu and Remo Obas to unite and work together to achieve the objective of the creation of the new State from the old Ijebu Province.
The Obas rightly observed that the Ijebu Province is the only province yet to attain the status of a state whereas other provinces like Benin ,Sokoto ,Kano , Enugu, Oyo, ,Ondo ,Jos and others enjoy the status of States and some like Kano ,Kaduna ,and Sokoto have had more states created from them .
The meeting of the Ijebu /Remo Obas acknowledged the sponsorship of the bill led by the Senator representing the Senatorial district Otunba Gbenga Daniel and the members of the House of Representatives urging them to leave no stone unturned for the actualization of the new state by ensuring the passage of the bill at both chambers of the National Assembly where it has already passed the first reading .
The meeting of the Obas for the new State echoed the socioeconomic viability of the new state when created and its ability to be a self sustained state because of its tremendous mineral and natural resources and deposits available plus the human resources and manpower that will be available in the new state when created .
The meeting was also attended by members of the state Assembly representing the zone and newly elected local government Chairmen who also unanimously endorsed the clamour for the new State.
A joint communique endorsed by all the Obas in attendance was signed by Alayeluwa Oba Sk Adetona the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland and The Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland represented by Oba Osiberu the Elepe of Epe Shagamu .
The next meeting of the Obas from Remo and Ijebufor the creation of the State will be held at the Palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland to further foster the healthy and unified relationship of the areas in the New state and fine tune the details needed for the passage of the referendum in the domain of the Obas, and ensure that all documentations and processes for the creation of the New State are in place for presentation for the passage of the bill for the creation of a new state in Ogun State from the Old Ijebu Province .
A working committee of sons and daughters from Ijebu and Remo was also set up to drive the project.

COMMUNIQUE OF THE MEETING OF STAKEHOLDERS ON THE CREATION OF A NEW STATE OF THE OLD IJEBU PROVINCE OUT OF PRESENT OGUN STATE HELD ON THURSDAY, 19T* DECEMBER 2021
AT AAFIN AWUJALE, IJEBU ODE
1. The meeting deliberated on the desirability of creating a new state out of the old ljebu Province. This province being the only one from all the old 19 provinces created during the colonial era that have not been created as an autonomous state.
2. The meeting further noted that some of these old provinces have been sub-divided into many states for example from Sokoto province, 3 states have been created. Similarly, from Old Oyo Province have emerged Oyo State, and Osun States. etc etc
The meeting also concluded that the said ljebu province is economically viable and already have all the infrastructural facilities that can sustain the state. Such include major industrial estates, like the Flowergate Industial Estate, the fastest growing industrial estates in Nigeria, An international Airport, with potential for a Deep Sea Port,
2 International Sports Stadia in ljebu Ode and Sagamu. Sufficient educational institutions, and sufficient natural minerals including large deposits of Tar Sands (solid crude oil), amongst other mineral resources, agricultural estates leading to self-sufficiency in food production and a large population.
4. The meeting subsequently appeal to all concerned members of the National and State Assemblies and other Stakeholders to rally support for the creation of this new state from the old jebu Province. 5.
The meeting further appreciates the untiring efforts of Alaiy eluwa Oba (Dr) S.K. Adetona, GCON Awujale and Paramount Ruler o fIjebuland and Alaiyeluwa Oba Adewale Ajayi, CFR Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, and our Royal fathers for their efforts in particular and urge the members of the Committees set up to harmonise all grey areas if any and urge the commit tees to expedite their works including required advocacy, mobili sation of resources and groundwork necessary to achieve the o bjectives.
6.The meeting concluded by appreciating the effort of The President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to restructure the polity and enjoin all citizens to continue to support the administration.
