LAGOS— In a strong push to promote transparency and accountability in the Nigerian healthcare system, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged medical professionals to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their work.
The call was made during a courtesy visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos, by the ICPC’s Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) for Lagos State, Mr. Chukwurah Alexander, fsi. Addressing the hospital’s management and staff, Mr. Alexander emphasized that integrity in healthcare is not optional, noting that “the manner in which you perform your duties directly influences public trust in governance.”
According to him, ethical conduct — especially when unobserved — is the true test of integrity. He urged continuous education on anti-corruption laws and adherence to best practices to reinforce accountability in public service.
Welcoming the ICPC team, Dr. Adedamola Dada, Chief Medical Director of FMC-Ebute-Metta, expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed the hospital’s unwavering commitment to professionalism. Dr. Dada highlighted several milestones achieved by the institution, such as the adoption of a fully paperless electronic medical system and uninterrupted 24-hour power supply — all of which, he said, were initiated to curb corruption and enhance service delivery.
The ICPC noted that this engagement forms part of its broader collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to improve governance structures and foster a culture of accountability within healthcare institutions nationwide.
As Nigeria continues to strengthen institutional integrity across critical sectors, the message from this visit is clear: professionalism and transparency are non-negotiable pillars of effective healthcare delivery.
