In a renewed push to entrench accountability in Nigeria’s public service, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and BudgIT Foundation have jointly unveiled a Project Tracking Policy Manual that promises to reshape how government projects are monitored across the country.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Friday at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strategic partnerships aimed at fighting corruption and promoting good governance.
Representing the ICPC Chairman, Mr. Olusegun Adigun, Director of the System Study and Review Department, commended BudgIT for its persistent efforts in deepening transparency within public institutions.
“This is a commendable step that aligns with the Commission’s core mandate of promoting transparency in government spending,” Adigun stated. “We are committed to deepening our partnership with BudgIT and collaborating on all fronts to advance the fight against corruption through systemic reforms and citizen engagement.”
He further emphasized the importance of collective action, urging stakeholders across various sectors to play an active role in lifting the nation out of poverty by demanding accountability.
On behalf of BudgIT Foundation, Mr. Vahyala T. Kwaga, Group Head of Research and Policy Advisory, underscored the significance of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. He described it as a “catalyst for impactful joint initiatives.”
“The Project Tracking Policy Manual is a practical tool that supports the anti-corruption agenda by promoting evidence-based policymaking and budget accountability,” Kwaga said.
The manual, a product of rigorous research, will serve as a guiding framework to improve institutional transparency. It includes data visualization tools and community-level engagement strategies that expose inefficiencies in public budgets and provide actionable recommendations. It also aims to empower citizens by enabling performance assessments of elected lawmakers based on project delivery in their constituencies.
Both ICPC and BudgIT reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration in driving systemic change, enhancing public service integrity, and promoting governance reforms across all levels of government.
This latest development comes at a time when Nigerians are demanding greater value for money and closer scrutiny of public funds—a vision both institutions say they are prepared to deliver.
Newspot Nigeria applauds the commitment of both ICPC and BudgIT Foundation in pushing the boundaries of transparency, civic engagement, and accountability.
