Ian Wright is concerned Manchester United could be in for another chastening experience when they travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last weekend following a humbling 4-1 defeat at Watford which left the club’s hierarchy with no option but to dispense with the services of a club legend.

Michael Carrick took over on a caretaker basis and helped steady the ship by masterminding Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Villarreal which assured United a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

United are expected to appoint Ralf Ragnick on an interim basis within the next 24 hours but Carrick will still be in charge for Sunday’s daunting trip to league leaders Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel’s relentless winning machine made short work of Juventus in midweek, cruising to a 4-0 victory, and Wright fears United could be in for a similarly heavy defeat.

He said: ‘We’re dealing with the same backroom staff so yes you might get a bit of enthusiasm going because it’s Chelsea.

‘But we’re talking about a Thomas Tuchel Chelsea side that is going to be ruthless with what they do. They’re not going to change. You’re going to have to deal with Reece James and what he can do.

‘Unfortunately for Chelsea Kante might not be fit but if you’re organised and stay in your shape like Ole Man United were you’re probably going to break through.

‘I don’t know what they can do that’s going to curtail and stop Chelsea or slow them down for them to then impress themselevs on Chelsea.

‘I really do feel this could be another one of those games where it could be another big one for them again.’
