*Admits Indiscipline Ruined His Career.
Former Nigerian international, Etim Esin, has revealed that missing the USA 94 World Cup, where Nigeria made her maiden appearance in the mundial, was what he regretted most.
Popularly called Maradona, due to his dribbling style, from his days in the U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, Esin was dropped from the Super Eagles squad, after he was accused of rape in Belgium.
“I have so many regrets as far as my football career was concerned but what happens to me in Belgium (the rape saga), which denied me an appearance in the World Cup in 1994, remains my greatest regret.”
The suoerbrat, who had a short stint with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, admitted that indiscipline contributed to his inability to fulfil his full potential as a footballer and has therefore, taken it upon himself to guide young footballers on the need to be disciplined.
“For now I am puttong up something that has to do with my experience, with the aim of letting younger generations of footballers to know why they must be disciplined.”
The Akwa Ibom born state born footballer, turned scout, also spoke on the need for politics to be separated from football, if the round leather game must grow in Nigeria.
“We need to make sure that we put the right persons in the right positions, we must do away with fixing people based on contacts or who they know, appointments should be on merit,” he asserted.
