A member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Godfrey Oboabona has said he is looking forward to a return to the senior national football team.
Oboabona revealed his desire to return to Super Eagles while featuring via Skype on the BCOS TV sports programme, Saturday Breakfast Sports Show, from his base in Georgia.
Expressing his wish, the former Sunshine Stars defender, who now plies his trade in Georgia, said he still has a lot to offer his country’s national team.
The rock solid defender argued that if 34 year old Sergio Ramos could still be playing for Spain, it won’t be wrong if he, at 29, is allowed to continue to play for Nigeria.
“I’m just 29. I can still play for Super Eagles. If Ramos at 34 can still be playing for Spain, why can’t I play for Eagles?”, he asked.
Oboabona, who hailed from Edo but was raised in Ondo state, said further ” If I’m recalled to the national team, I will gladly accept the invitation without hesitation”.
The once reliant goal – bound moves stopper, who sustained injury in Nigeria’s first game at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, revealed that the incident was saddest moment of his career.
Sadly, Nigeria’s opening game at Brazil 2014, was incidentally Oboabona’s first ever game at the World Cup, and also his last, as the injury he sustained in Nigeria/Iran goaless draw put paid to his further participation in the World Cup in Brazil.
