Two security guards have been arrested by the police in Ogun State for shooting a man in his right eye.

The incident happened Saturday at Sango/Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State.

The victim, Ramon Rasaq, lost his sight as seven pellets were later removed from the eye by a traditional healer.

Police spokesperson in Ogun, Omolola Odutola, described the case as “attempted murder.”

Odutola said one Abiodun Fatai had told the police in Sango that his younger brother was involved in a heated altercation with the security because he “opened the gate himself as the two security men, Michael Adelayo and Ganiyu Saka, were not on guard at their security post at the time he got to the gate.

Rasaq’s action, making his way into the street, was said to have angered the security guards.

“This led to a quarrel, and during the escalating scuffle, one of the security men, Ganiyu Saka shot Ramon Rasaq in his eyes,” Odutola said in a statement on Tuesday.

CSP Saleh Dahiru, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango Ota, had provided the necessary medical forms for Ramon to be transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

“At the hospital, he received immediate medical attention to stabilize his condition. Although he unfortunately lost his right eye, the doctor on duty assured that Ramon is currently responding positively to treatment,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has directed the transfer of the suspects to State CID for further investigation and possible prosecution.
