How An Army General who Served Nigeria For 30 Years Was Killed In His Bedroom By Bandits

Retired Brigadier General Harold Udokwere of the Nigerian Armed Forces who was murdered by unknown gunmen at his residence at No 1, Sanga Street, Sunshine Homes by Kabusa Junction in Lokogoma, Abuja retired from active service after 30 years

The attack that shook the military and entire nation occurred in the early hours of June 22, 2024, and has raised serious concerns about security apparatuses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The killers, who were reportedly armed robbers, broke into Brigadier General Udokwere’s house around 3:00 a.m. They demanded jewelry, money, and other valuables from the General. Despite complying with their demands, the robbers shot Brigadier General Udokwere apparently alone at the time of attack was caught unawares. A neighborhood guard who tried to intervene was shot.

Brigadier General Udokwere who was immediately rushed to the National Hospital Abuja,could not make it as he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“The armed robbery attack resulted in the untimely demise of Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (rtd.) on June 22, 2024, at approximately 03:00 a.m.,”

“Expressing profound condolences to the bereaved family, CP Benneth Igweh assured the family and the public of swift justice, with every effort in conduit to ensure the perpetrators of the atrocious act are apprehended and brought to justice.” Police statement read.

The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Police Command to enhancing the security landscape of Abuja. “The command will continually adapt strategies to effectively combat evolving criminal activities. Updates on this matter will be provided in due course,” the statement concluded.

Brigadier General Harold Udokwere, a respected and highly decorated officer, retired from active service with an impressive record. Known for his dedication, bravery, and leadership, General Udokwere served in various capacities within the Nigerian Army, contributing significantly to national security.
