Harry Kane ‘didn’t know’ what Jude Bellingham was saying to him moments before he scored his penalty against Real Madrid but insisted he ‘blocked everything’ out before finding the back of the net.
Bayern Munich and Real shared an engrossing 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final in Germany on Tuesday night with the second leg in Madrid taking place next week.
Vinicius Jr opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half but Bayern roared back in the first 15 minutes of the second with Leroy Sane scoring with an excellent solo effort before Kane struck from the spot.
Moments before the penalty was taken, Bellingham approached his England captain and appeared to mutter something in his direction before the match referee ushered him away.
Bellingham’s attempt to distract the former Tottenham star failed with Kane slotting home his 43rd goal of the season.
Vinicius Jr levelled the tie with a penalty of his own seven minutes from time but after the final whistle, plenty of the discussion focused on what Bellingham had said to Kane.
‘To be honest, I don’t know what he was saying,’ Kane told TNT Sport.
‘I saw him there mumbling something but I will have to ask him what he was actually saying.
‘Once I’m in that moment I am in my zone and I am just trying to block everything out. I’m sure he was saying something to try and put me off but thankfully it was okay for me.’
Kane conceded he was a ‘little disappointed’ not to have taken control of the tie on Tuesday night but is confident they will create the chances to book their trip to Wembley next week.
‘A little disappointed,’ Kane said. ‘Once we got 2-1 ahead we had two or three good chances.
‘This is the Champions League semi-final. We expected a tough game. Real are one of the best teams in Europe who can punish you with one or two actions.
‘All to play for next week. We know we can have chances next week we just have to take them.
‘We started on the front foot. Their goal came against the run of play. We struggled to play our game. Second half we played with a higher intensity. We deserved our two goals, shame we couldn’t get a third.’
