England captain Harry Kane has urged Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate to take Cole Palmer to Euro 2024.

Palmer continued his remarkable rise by scoring his first England goal in the 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.

Bosnia frustrated the Euro 2024 hopefuls for an hour at a sold-out St James’ Park before Chelsea playmaker Palmer slotted home a penalty to break the deadlock.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kane then scored late on as England won their penultimate warm-up game ahead of Euro 2024, which starts on June 14.

Palmer was included in England’s provisional 33-man squad following a sensational first season at Chelsea, where he scored 24 goals and made 13 assists in 39 games.

The 22-year-old’s form saw him bag the Premier League young player of the season award and Kane insists he is ‘very happy’ to have Palmer in the England squad ahead of the Euros.

Southgate will name his final 26-man Euro 2024 squad on Saturday, just a few hours after the Three Lions face Iceland in their final warm-up game at Wembley.

Asked about Palmer’s form after England ground down down Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bayern Munich striker Kane told Channel 4: ‘He’s had an unbelievable season.

‘It’s never easy moving club as well so for him to do what he’s done in his first season at Chelsea, it’s a credit to him.

‘We’re very happy to have him, I’m delighted he got his goal there. Of course we’re going to need all our players to chip in with goals throughout this tournament so the more people feeling good the better.’

While Palmer scored his first England goal at St James’ Park, Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze was described as the team’s ‘bright spark’ by pundit Joe Cole.

Rating Palmer and Eze’s performances, Southgate said: ‘I thought they both played with the freedom.

‘Ebere has got lovely movement to go past players, he’s got power. I thought Cole linked the game well for us.

‘A couple of times, Cole was being too precise and if he got his shots away earlier maybe he could’ve got a couple.’

On England’s win as a whole, Southgate added: ‘They were an opponent that were dogged, determined.

‘Physically, it was a good workout but in the end, a good performance. The scoreline reflected the performance.’

England travel to Germany for the Euros after their final warm-up game Iceland. The Three Lions kick-start their Euro 2024 campaign on June 16 against Serbia.
