The Council Chairman, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Oghenedoro Owoso, has urged the elders and chiefs of the land to encourage their children and the youths to stop the intake of hard drugs.
Owoso made this call during a visitation tour to kings and council of elders to curb crime in the area.
The chairman during the visit, noted that it had become necessary that he meet the people to dialogue on the way forward to achieving a peaceful and conducive environment for development to thrive in the area, saying that the intake and abuse of hard drugs could also contribute to the increase in crime rate.
He said for the locality to benefit from the agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oberevwori administration, the people must give way for peace.
“I came to solicit with you, our fathers, to help talk to our children and youths to stop the taking of hard drugs that are capable of destroying their systems. Drug abuse has also contributed to the increase in crime.
“Our youths are very intelligent people. I have interacted with some of them. I found out that they are very intelligent people who could help in building a healthy society, but the intake of these drugs could make them act the opposite, making them to involve in crime, causing unrest in the society,” the chairman stated.
The Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, HRM Noble Eshemita, thanked the chairman for the visit, saying the visit would reawaken their relationship with the local government council to harness ways of solving the issue of crime in the area.
Similarly, the Ovie of Mosogar kingdom, HRM Sunday Okpurhe, was also happy with the visit, promising to work with the chairman to bring sanity to the area for more development to thrive.
Also at the Ogharefe Oguedion, the unugbrogodo of Ogharefe, Chief Stephen Egbivwie, noted that the crime rate in the area had been worrisome to them as custodians of the land.
He opined that the intake of hard drugs had escalated the crime rate in the area, urging the council chairman to encourage the police to fight the malaise in the area
