Reports from Birnin Yaro town in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have confirmed the abduction of 20 worshippers by gunmen last night during Isha (night) prayers.
A witness, Binyaminu Kasimu whose father and brother were among the victims, narrated the incident to Daily Post, adding that in addition to the 20 abducted individuals, the gunmen also shot and killed a shopkeeper in the area”
“I called my father’s phone, when one of the gunmen answered and told me they had
kidnapped him.”
“After abducting eight people from
the mosque, including my father and
my brother, the bandits went to
another village called Banki, where
they shot and killed a shopkeeper” he added.
Reports indicate that the bandits
entered the village around 7:30 PM,
and they were in large numbers.
Our efforts to get a response from
the spokesperson of the Zamfara
State Police Command were
unsuccessful.
This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in the northern region, where banditry and kidnappings have become rampant. The attack, has heightened fear and anxiety in the community.
Despite efforts by the government and security agencies to address these issues, such attacks continue to disrupt the lives and livelihoods of many.
