The Niger Delta People’s Assembly, NDPA has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore the media hype and protest against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL in the interest of the nation.
Recall that some Niger Delta Youths had over the week staged protests demanding the sack of the NNPCL leadership but the National Coordinator of NDPA, Richard Toritseju Okotie, in a statement, alleged that some frustrated individuals, engaged in unlawful and unmerited favours were behind the protests.

The group said the recent protest against NNPCL was a charade and that the 26 Coalition who staged the protest under the aegis of the Niger Delta Youth Empowerment Network(NDEN) were a joke in its entirety.
“No one changes a winning team, rather, you strengthen it. Only individuals who engage in unlawful activities and seeking unmerited favours are afraid.”
“The lacklustre reception accorded the protesting youths by the staff of the NUPRC was most deserving.
“In a very poorly articulated address, they presented their grouse as financial impropriety; lack of vision, poor performance, and autocratic conduct, among others against the NNPCL and this prompts the question are they the auditors appointed by the President to study the books of the NNPCL?
The NDPA said the NNPCL is the most probed and audited agency by other government institutions such as the National Assembly, due to the oversight function exercised over it.
The NDPA pointed out that “There is an increase in crude oil production in 2023 due to the ingenuity and commitment of the NNPCL GMD, who launched a relentless war against oil theft and pipeline vandalism by local operators and international barons.
“Mele Kyari recently awarded pipelines rehabilitation and surveillance contracts throughout the country to a consortium of oil firms in a bid to ensure uninterrupted conveyance of crude and supply of refined products to all nooks and crannies of the country.”
“The grouse of the unhappy sponsors stems from the refusal of the NNPCL to renew the non-performing pipelines surveillance contracts, which expired last September, the statement said.
