The Jigawa State Government has pledged its support to 10-year-old Khadija Muhammed, who was assaulted about five months ago in Galamawa community, Dutse.
This announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, during an interview on Wednesday in Dutse.
According to Musa, Governor Umar Namadi was deeply shocked and concerned upon learning about Khadija’s condition.
“Governor Umar Namadi was dumbfounded and worried when he received the information on the girl’s condition,” he stated.
The commissioner revealed that in response to the incident, the governor had ordered immediate action to support Khadija and her family.
“His Excellency the Governor has ordered that proactive measures must be taken to support little Khadija and her family during this trying period,” Musa added.
“The state’s Attorney General has confirmed that the perpetrator of the assault has been arrested and is currently in prison.
“The perpetrator was arrested and is presently on remand in prison,” Musa said.
Governor Namadi also directed that Khadija receives the best medical care and rehabilitation available.
“The governor has ordered that the best medical care and rehabilitation be arranged for her as soon as possible,” the commissioner emphasized.
In addition to medical care, the governor has mandated the re-enrollment of Khadija into school once she recovers, ensuring she receives free education.
“The governor has ordered for the re-enrollment of Khadija back to school as soon as she recovers,” said Musa.
Further, in a move to aid her psychological recovery, the Ministry of Women Affairs has been instructed to secure alternative accommodation for Khadija’s family.
“The Ministry of Women Affairs will arrange for a different accommodation for her family to help improve her psychological recovery,” he added.
Musa reiterated the administration’s commitment to eradicating gender-based violence in Jigawa, emphasizing support for victims of sexual assault.
He also urged victims of rape and their families to report cases to the proper authorities for immediate action, rather than turning to social media.
The commissioner warned perpetrators of gender violence that strict measures have been set in place to punish such offenses.
“We urge perpetrators to desist from such acts as the administration has implemented strict measures against gender violence,” he concluded.
Khadija, who was assaulted in July, is currently receiving medical care and rehabilitation in a Kano hospital.
