In a significant move to address the pressing shortage of educators in public secondary schools across Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the recruitment of 1,010 new teachers. This decision comes after a thorough recruitment exercise conducted by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which reviewed thousands of applications last year.

According to Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the list of successful candidates will be made public today. It will be accessible online and displayed at TESCOM headquarters and zonal offices throughout the state starting Tuesday. Those selected are expected to begin their documentation process immediately.

This initiative follows a previous approval by Governor Aiyedatiwa for the recruitment of 1,000 secondary school and an additional 1,000 primary school teachers. While the final list for secondary school teachers has been confirmed, the process for primary school teachers is nearing completion.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has consistently voiced his concerns regarding teacher shortages, especially in rural areas, emphasizing that recruitment efforts should focus on the needs of understaffed institutions. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance the education sector in Ondo State.

In addition to teacher recruitment, the governor recently allocated N633 million for the registration of students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Furthermore, he has approved the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo to a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, signaling a commitment to improving educational opportunities in the state.
