In a swift and determined response to the recent communal crisis affecting the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun communities, Governor Ademola Adeleke has implemented a series of measures aimed at restoring peace and ensuring the safety of residents. The unrest, which erupted due to longstanding tensions, prompted the Governor to take immediate action to prevent further violence.
To maintain order, Governor Adeleke imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. This curfew has since been extended to a 24-hour period until further notice, reflecting the seriousness of the situation. In addition, the Governor ordered the commencement of continuous security operations and surveillance around the three communities to deter any potential unrest.
Recognizing the need for collaboration, Governor Adeleke summoned traditional rulers and key stakeholders from the affected areas to a special meeting. This gathering aimed to foster dialogue and mutual understanding among the communities. Following this, an emergency security meeting was convened with heads of security agencies in the state to strategize on effective measures for conflict resolution.
To ensure robust enforcement, the Governor approved the immediate deployment of a joint task force, complete with all necessary logistics to facilitate operational success. Furthermore, he summoned influential ring leaders from the conflict zones for interrogation and to sign peace undertakings, underscoring the importance of accountability in the peace process.
In a decisive move against those responsible for the violence, Governor Adeleke ordered the immediate arrests and prosecution of perpetrators. He also invoked the Cyber Crime Act to target individuals spreading incendiary old videos online, aimed at inciting further violence.
Governor Adeleke has made it clear that any resurgence of violence will lead to severe consequences, including the suspension of traditional rulers in the affected towns. He also vowed to prosecute anyone who violates peace undertakings, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining tranquility in the region.
