OSOGBO – Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to kick off academic activities at the Osun Girls’ Alternative High School, Osogbo, by the next academic session.
This assurance follows a recent news report titled “Four Months After, Alternative High School for Girls Yet to Commence Operations”, which raised questions about the delay in opening the institution. The school was officially commissioned on December 13, 2024, by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as part of a broader initiative to empower out-of-school girls through quality education and vocational training.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government stated that all necessary logistics and academic frameworks have been put in place to ensure a smooth takeoff. “We are not just building a school; we are building futures,” Alimi said, noting that the institution would offer both conventional education and vocational skills such as Ofi weaving, Adire (tie and dye), event planning, and hairdressing.
Top officials from the Ministry of Education, including the Honourable Commissioner for Education, the Executive Secretary of the Senior Secondary Education Board, and a member of SUBEB, were recently involved in a strategic meeting with the First Lady of the state to finalize plans.
The Osun Government emphasized that the school will serve as a second-chance platform for girls who have dropped out of the formal education system due to socio-economic challenges, ensuring they gain skills to become self-reliant and productive members of society.
