Governor Ademola Adeleke has confirmed that the local government elections in Osun State are set to proceed as planned tomorrow, under the supervision of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
The Governor made this announcement during a meeting with a civil society coalition delegation that is in the state to monitor the elections. He assured that OSSIEC has made thorough preparations and that the people of Osun are ready to exercise their democratic rights.
Highlighting the importance of the elections, Governor Adeleke stated, “Our people are eager to elect their chosen chairmen and councillors. According to reports, OSSIEC has done a commendable job in preparing for the elections. With several political parties participating, I’m confident that there will be a fair contest for all involved.”
In response to any controversies surrounding the elections, the Governor emphasized the need to adhere to democratic principles and the rule of law. “I urge all parties, both local and national, to respect democratic norms. We stand by the rule of law and not illegal self-help. The elections will proceed, contributing to accelerated development at the local level. I call on our citizens to maintain peace, as Osun is known for its tranquility,” he remarked.
