Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has given an eight-week ultimatum to the Visitation Panel for Sa’adu Zungur University to find solutions to lingering issues responsible for the ongoing unrest with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The panel’s mandate includes addressing the root causes of the strike, reviewing the university’s financial operations, and developing a strategy for effective and harmonious management.

At the inauguration of the panel, Governor Mohammed underscored the importance of their work in the restoration of normalcy to the university, which has been plagued by disruptions of teaching and learning.

He said his administration recognizes education as the foundation for meaningful development and is committed to finding solutions to the challenges confronting the sector.

He asked the committee to come up with lasting solutions to the lingering crisis between ASUU, NASU, and the university management despite his earlier interventions.

The chairperson of the panel, Prof. Gambo Laraba, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and assured him that the panel would deliver an in-depth report to guide reforms in the institution.

ASUU at SAZU had earlier suspended an indefinite strike over non-implementation of pension and death benefit schemes, unpaid allowances, and the appointment of a polytechnic graduate as bursar against the laws establishing the university.

This followed the personal engagement of the Governor with the union in mid-December 2024.
