Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has lifted the curfew imposed on several communities within the Karim-Lamido Local Government Council of the state.

The lifting of the curfew was announced by the governor on Tuesday, shortly after he received the report of the reconciliation committee led by Alhaji Inuwa Bakari.

The curfew had been put in place due to recent clashes between the Wurkun and Karinjo communities in the council. These clashes resulted in significant loss of lives and property.

To prevent the crisis from spreading to neighboring communities and local government councils, the governor declared a complete lockdown in the affected council area.

The governor also established a committee to address the longstanding dispute between the two communities.

Governor Kefas called upon the residents to avoid actions that could potentially provoke further conflict within the council.

He emphasised that his administration would take stern action against any individual or group that engages in activities that disrupt the prevailing peace in the area and the state as a whole.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to herald the much-desired growth in the area, he believed such a feat, could only be made possible in an atmosphere of peace.

Residents from the affected council area who spoke with our correspondent via telephone, expressed relief at the curfew being lifted. They noted that the decision has brought relief not only to the affected communities but to the entire council.
