Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has suspended all unlicensed colleges of health technology around the state.
The proscription of the affected colleges, all private, takes immediate effect.
The governor after a meeting in Yola on Tuesday, gave the directive for the closure of the “unregistered and unaccredited” private colleges of health.
Fintiri revealed the new development to Government House correspondents in Yola shortly after a meeting attended by heads of tertiary institutions.
He said the activities of the colleges would remain blocked until the affected institutions meet stipulated requirements and are certified by the Ministry of Health.
The Governor further announced that the College of Health Technology in Mubi would immediately move to its right location in Michika.
Newspot on July 26, 2023, reported that the Adamawa State House of Assembly had set plans in motion to probe some 19 colleges of health alleged to have been established in different parts of the state without due process.
The Assembly had commenced an investigation into the operations of the said colleges, mandating its Committee on Health and that of Education to track the activities of the institutions.
The joint committee was tasked to specifically investigate the minimum standard of operation, the courses being offered, and whether they were licensed by relevant authorities.
