Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has set up verification teams to authenticate the projects executed by the local government Transition Committee chairmen and their members across 31 council areas in the state.

This was contained in a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, and made available to journalists in Uyo on Tuesday.

Members of the verification team, who are predominantly commissioners and a few House members, are expected to submit their report on Wednesday, June 5.

The statement reads in parts, “His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the appointment of the following government officials as members of the Verification Team to authenticate the projects executed by the respective Chairmen and Members of the 31 Local Government Transition Committee during their six-month tenure in office.”

It could be recalled that Gov Eno constituted a Transition Committee across all the council areas in the state after the expiration of the tenure of the office of chairmen and councillors six months ago, pending when elections will be conducted in the council .

It was gathered that local government allocations have improved in the last six months, which instigated the governor to ask council helmsmen and their members to justify huge government funds appropriated to them.

Last month, Governor Umo Eno visited all the local government areas for factual findings on their various projects, but apparently he was not satisfied and has now constituted another verification team that will report the outcome of their findings to the Office of the Governor to guide him in any decision.
