West Ham forward is making no secret of the fact he wants to leave the club this summer, launching a come-and-get-me plea to Roma.

The 24-year-old signed from Sassuolo last summer in a deal worth over £30m and there were high hopes for him in east London after scoring 16 goals in his last season in Italy.

However, like a number of Hammers strikers before him, he has not been a hit in England, scoring eight goals in all competitions this season but just three in the Premier League.

The Italy international signed a five-year contract with West Ham when he arrived in 2022 but he is already looking for the exit door.

Scamacca is not looking for any old club to snap him up, he has declared that he wants to return to Roma, where he spent time in the youth academy from 2012-15.

The forward is from Rome and also is keen to work with manager Jose Mourinho, as he made clear in an eye-catching interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘Roma is my home,’ Scamacca told the Italian newspaper. ‘It’d be a dream scenario to have José Mourinho as manager.”

‘I’m sure I’d improve my skills a lot under Jose at Roma.’

Whether a deal can be done is not entirely clear as Roma are thought to be interested, but West Ham want to recoup as much of their outlay on the Italian as possible, which may prove a stumbling block.

Fellow Hammers forward Michail Antonio spoke about Scamacca earlier this summer that the Italian has great quality, but has struggled to deal with David Moyes’ style of play at West Ham.

‘He is actually quality, he is a quality player,’ Antonio told the Filfthy Fellas YouTube Channel. ‘The problem is, he can not play the way the manager wants to play.

‘He needs a different type of manager who will let him play with players to come off him and stuff like that. You see that, the ball comes to him, and it sticks.

‘But with David Moyes, you have to feed off scraps, be a fighter… and he’s not that.’
