A recent assessment by the United Nations, European Union, and World Bank reveals that over $50 billion is required to rebuild Gaza after a devastating 15-month conflict with Israel. The Interim Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (IRDNA) estimates $53.2 billion will be necessary for recovery over the next decade, with $20 billion needed immediately.
The conflict has resulted in over 48,000 deaths and extensive destruction, leaving many Palestinians living in makeshift tents. Currently, 95% of hospitals are non-functional, and the local economy has contracted by 83%.
The IRDNA indicates that more than 292,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, with nearly $30 billion needed to repair infrastructure. However, large-scale recovery efforts are hindered by uncertainty regarding governance and security in the region following the ceasefire.
As the international community prepares for rebuilding, the urgent need for humanitarian aid remains a priority for helping the Gazan population restore their lives.
