Israel and Hamas have agreed a ceasefire to halt the devastating 15-month war in Gaza, sources tell Al Jazeera.

However, it remains unclear when a ceasefire would start as Israel continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Hamas told Al Jazeera that the group’s delegation delivered its approval of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement to mediators.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says a ceasefire deal in Gaza has not been finalised but suggests final details could be resolved in the coming hours.

Israeli forces have stepped up attacks on Gaza, bombing a school-turned-shelter and several homes across the Strip, and killing at least 62 people over the latest 24-hour reporting period.

Thousands of Israelis rallied in Tel Aviv, calling for a deal that would secure the release of captives held in Gaza, while hundreds of hard-liners marched in Jerusalem, demanding a continuation of the war.

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed at least 46,707 Palestinians and wounded 110,265 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day and more than 200 were taken captives.
