Manchester United hero Gary Neville has aimed a dig at Pep Guardiola ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup third-round clash against Salford City.
City, FA Cup runners-up last season, have been in miserable form in recent weeks and have gone seven games without a win across all competitions.
Guardiola’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last time out to lose four straight Premier League matches for the first time since August 2008.
They now face an upcoming battle against League Two side Salford, owned by Neville and other United legends from the Class of 92 including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville.
Ahead of the FA Cup third-round showdown at the Etihad, Sky Sports football pundit and United icon Neville posted on X: ‘He’s getting sacked in the morning @SalfordCityFC.’
Neville’s social media post is a reference to Sunday’s clash between City and Livepool at Anfield in which Guardiola was targeted by Reds fans.
Liverpool fans could be heard screaming ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ during the match, which clearly irked City’s Spanish manager.
Guardiola responded to them by holding up six fingers, to signify the amount of Premier League titles he has won for City.
After the match, Guardiola said: ‘I’m so proud for my six Premier Leagues against that team and the previous team, I’m so sorry.
‘I didn’t expect Anfield to start to chant at 0-2 that I should be sacked. Maybe I deserve to be sacked, honestly.
‘With the results we’ve had, maybe I’m still in a job because of the six Premier Leagues. Otherwise the higher-ups will think it doesn’t work.
‘I didn’t expect they were singing at 1-0. Maybe at Brighton they did it, but at Anfield I didn’t expect that. But it’s fine, it is what it is. It’s part of the game.
‘When you win you laugh, when you lose they laugh and you have to accept it.’
